What your company's Nitaqat colour zone means for you as an expat — job security, Iqama renewal rights, transfer eligibility, and what to do if your company turns Red.

🤔 What Is Nitaqat — And Why Does It Affect YOU?
Nitaqat (نطاقات) is Saudi Arabia's Saudization program — it classifies every private-sector company by the percentage of Saudi nationals in its workforce. The higher the Saudi percentage, the better the zone (Platinum → Green → Yellow → Red).
Most expats have never heard of Nitaqat. But it directly controls whether your company can renew your Iqama, issue new visas, and whether you can transfer your sponsorship. If your company drops to Red, you could be left without a valid Iqama and face deportation.
⚠️ This is not just an HR problem. Thousands of expats have been stranded when their company's Nitaqat status dropped. Your Iqama renewal is at your employer's mercy — only if you know your company's status can you act in time.

🔍 My Company's Zone — What Should I Do?
Select your company's Nitaqat zone to see a personalised action guide:
🔎 How to Check Your Company's Nitaqat Status
You can check via Qiwa (if you have business access) or ask your HR/PRO:
Via Qiwa (qiwa.sa):
qiwa.sa→Login with Absher/Nafath→My Establishment→Labour Details→Nitaqat Level
Alternative: Ask your HR department for the Nitaqat certificate (شهادة نطاقات). Companies receive this from HRSD. As an employee, you have the right to know your company's compliance status — it directly affects your Iqama.
⚠️ Nitaqat changes quarterly. A company that was Green last month can drop to Yellow if they lose Saudi employees. Check every 3–6 months, especially if your Iqama renewal is coming up.
🚨 Your Company is Red — Immediate Action Plan
If your company is in the Red zone, do NOT wait. Your Iqama cannot be renewed. You will become undocumented when it expires.
Step 1 — Check Your Iqama Expiry
Immediately check how many days remain on your Iqama via Absher. This is your deadline — everything must be resolved before it expires.
Step 2 — You Can Transfer FOR FREE
When your employer is Red-zone, you can transfer your Iqama to a new employer WITHOUT the SAR 2,000 fee and WITHOUT your employer's permission. This is your legal right.
Step 3 — Find a Green/Platinum Employer
Look for a new job immediately. Confirm the new company's Nitaqat zone BEFORE accepting an offer — ask HR for their Nitaqat certificate.
Step 4 — Process Transfer via Qiwa
New employer initiates the transfer request via Qiwa. You accept on your Qiwa profile. Iqama is transferred within days.
Free Iqama Transfer (Red Zone) process:
New employer logs in to Qiwa→Labor Transfer Request→Enter your Iqama number→You receive notification on Qiwa / Absher→Accept transfer→Transfer processed (no SAR 2,000 fee from Red company)
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean if my company is in the Red Nitaqat zone?
Red zone means your company does not have enough Saudi employees relative to its total workforce. The consequences for you: they cannot renew your Iqama, cannot issue you new visas, and cannot bring in other expats. Your Iqama will expire and not be renewable. You should transfer your sponsorship immediately.
How do I check my company's Nitaqat status?
Log in to Qiwa (qiwa.sa) with your Absher/Nafath credentials → My Establishment → Labour Details → Nitaqat Level. Alternatively ask your HR or PRO for the Nitaqat certificate (شهادة نطاقات).
Can I transfer my Iqama from a Red zone company?
Yes — and it's FREE. When your company is in the Red zone, you have the legal right to transfer your Iqama to any other employer without your current employer's permission and without paying the SAR 2,000 transfer fee. This is one of the protections Saudi law provides to expat workers.
Is Nitaqat the same as Saudization?
Nitaqat is the system that implements Saudization. Saudization is the policy (increasing Saudi nationals in private sector jobs). Nitaqat is the colour-coded classification framework that measures and enforces it. They're two sides of the same coin.
Does Nitaqat affect domestic workers?
Domestic workers (drivers, housemaids, gardeners) are hired under a separate system (Musaned) and are not counted in the Nitaqat Saudization calculation. Nitaqat applies to private sector commercial companies only.
