What is the Saudi Dependent Levy?

The dependent levy (رسوم المرافقين) is a monthly fee paid by expatriate workers in Saudi Arabia for each family member (dependent) living with them on a family visa. It was introduced as part of Saudi Vision 2030 reforms.

Current 2026 Rates

As of 2026, the dependent levy is SAR 400 per dependent per month (SAR 4,800 per year per dependent). This applies to spouses, children, and parents on family residence visas.

Who Pays the Dependent Levy?

Any expatriate employee who sponsors family members in Saudi Arabia must pay this fee. It does not apply to Saudi nationals. The levy is paid annually or quarterly through the Absher platform.

How to Pay

Payments are made through the official Absher portal (absher.sa), Ministry of Interior website, or Iqama renewal offices. Failure to pay results in fines and can affect your Iqama renewal and your dependents' visa status.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the dependent levy apply to all nationalities?
Yes, the dependent levy applies to all expatriate workers regardless of nationality — Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Filipino, and all others who sponsor family members in KSA.
Are children under 18 exempt from the dependent levy?
No. The dependent levy applies to all dependents including children of any age who are on a family residence visa in Saudi Arabia. Each person counts as one dependent at SAR 400/month.
What happens if I don't pay the dependent levy on time?
Late payment results in fines and penalties. It can also block your ability to renew your Iqama and your dependents' residence visas, which could lead to legal violations (Mukhala fees).
Can I deduct the dependent levy from my taxes?
Saudi Arabia has no personal income tax, so there is no tax deduction applicable. The levy is a direct government fee with no offset available.
